A new report by the U.S. House Committee on Government Reform says 90% of Arkansas nursing homes had at least one violation, and one-third harmed residents or placed them at risk. Article notes there were: "510 violations for failing to provide medical care. 173 violations for failing to prevent abuse, mistreatment and neglect of residents or theft of residents' property. 134 violations for failing to store, cook or serve food 'in a safe and clean way.' 248 violations for failing to ensure residents received proper hydration and nutrition." |

Advocat Inc. has settled six lawsuits involving 15 residents in five Arkansas nursing homes with an agreement that does not admit any violations of state laws or standards of care. "Advocat will pay the state $400,000 in monthly payments over two years and will pay at least $600,000 to install sprinkler systems in its nursing homes in Arkansas. The settlement also included $300,000 already spent by the company for additional training for nursing home staff." |
