Caregivers' backgrounds unchecked |
|
| Comments: |
There are about 150 Colorado agencies offering personal care and homemaker services, and none is required to check the criminal backgrounds of employees. "State records [also] show that two-thirds of the complaints against personal-care providers were dismissed in the past three years, and no agencies lost their certification." |

Our elders' keepers; Knowing when they need care and what kind to offer |
|
| Comments: |
Article hooked on November as National Caregivers Month notes that a recent Harris study found "75% of seniors polled didn't want to ask for help from family members." One expert "says there are many telltale signs that an older relative might need help: an unkempt house, a pile of unpaid bills, deterioration in conversational skills, reluctance to leave the house, lack of interest in preparing and eating meals, decline in personal hygiene, dents or scratches on the car, scorched pots and pans, lack of interest in activities, sleeping a lot, evidence of missed doctors' appointments and social engagements, and disorganized pill bottles or other evidence of losing track of medications." |
