Title: Group puts 36 percent of Idaho's nursing homes on 'watch list'

Comments: Thirty-six of Idaho's 82 licensed nursing homes have been placed on the National Nursing Home Watch List maintained by Member of the Family, a privately owned nursing home watchdog group. Facilities are listed when they have regulatory violations rated as harming residents or placing them in immediate jeopardy of harm.

Title: Elderly woman cheated in scam
Comments: An 89-year-old woman lost more than $11,000 in a multi-day scam in which a man who allegedly lived in Ottawa said he had mistakenly received a package addressed to her containing a check for $114,000. Another Ada County resident has reported being called about a similar scam.

Title: Legislature Hears Sexual Abuse Bill

Comments: An Idaho House committee has sent a Senate-passed bill to protect vulnerable adults from sexual abuse to a vote of the full House. It provides a 25-year prison sentence and $25,000 fine for people found guilty of improper sexual conduct with someone who can't consent because of physical or mental impairment.

Title: Climbing the Wall: Families fight abuse of elderly relatives

Comments: Lengthy article describes the many futile attempts two families made to bring to light financial and other abuses perpetrated against aged residents of Fairwinds Retirement Community by staff and administrators. Ultimately, one family won a $3.1 million lawsuit against the facility and one administrator pleaded guilty to two counts of grand theft. The rest of the charges were dropped due to the statute of limitations or insufficiency of evidence.
