State inspections of nursing homes questioned |
|
| Comments: |
A member of the state Board of Health who prompted the "uncovering of the Oklahoma nursing home scandal in 2000," is again charging that state legislators ("at the behest of nursing home administrators") are putting pressure on state Health Department investigators to "lighten up" their written evaluations and criticisms of nursing homes. |

- Vulnerable Adult Abuse
- Prosecution
- Legislation
|
| Comments: |
A new law has gone into effect. It covers domestic abuse, including abuse of parents and abuse by someone who currently or formerly lived in the same household. "House Bill 2626 increases the penalty for domestic abuse to a county jail sentence up to one year and/or a fine of up to $5,000. On a second conviction, the defendant could face four years behind bars. It also increases the crime from a misdemeanor to a felony if the crime results in great bodily injury to the victim. Then the attacker could face 10 years in prison or one year in the county jail. The penalty doubles for a second offense." |
